Wow what stupid situation! What a bunch of desperate crooks. As a filmmaker in Hong Kong I am sorry you had to deal with such idiotic behavior. Hope you got the shots you needed and please don’t think everyone in Hong Kong likes munching on Nike sport shoes! Michael you told that story really well, you made me laugh so much… Guess that’s why you earn the big bucks! Have a great shoot! Best wishes!

Hi MIchael, shocked but glad to hear that you’re okay! As a citizen of Hong Kong, for something like this to happen is embarrassing, but I am glad to hear that this has not affected your impression of Hong Kong. Most of us here are very excited and welcome you filming here. Glad that shooting for the rest of the day (and hopefully for the rest of your time here) went well.

    Hi Michael,

First of all welcome to Hong Kong! : )

I share the sentiment with James below… citizens (and a major TF fan – I
have been collecting since ’84) we’re all very happy and excited to have you
filming here in Hong Kong (and China) and hope you will have a great time here.
Most importantly we are very happy (and glad) that you and most of your crew
came to no harm in this incident today. It really is atrocious behaviour shown
by the people you had met earlier (they were just a brainless bunch of morons).
Please do not let them affect you in any way as they’re just not worth it.

About Hong Kong, apart from the main parts of the city with things like a wide
variety of cuisines, there are also many places to explore in Hong Kong,
especially at nighttime, on the external islands like Discovery Bay, Lamma
Island, Cheung Chau and in the northern suburbs with very beautiful scenery and
fresh air. If you got the time it’s worth a look…

Anyways am looking forward to the finished film – I have seen them all and think
they’re great, so can’t wait for the next one. Wish you the best of luck!

I just heard this on the news here in Indiana at 7:30pm today. I am shocked that some psycho would try and do that, and while you were filming too. I’m just glad you and the crew are okay. Maybe you should carry a tazer on you or a knife from now on when you’re filming. I don’t go anywhere around where I live without at least a swiss army knife. There’s a lot of crazy people out there this day in age. Anyways good luck with the rest of filming “Transformers: Age of Extinction”. Can’t wait to see it next year.

I literally just found that this site exists less than a minute ago and I have to say I like it. Being a huge fan of Michael Bay since seeing the first Transformers in theatres when I was 7 years old. I think this is just a slap in the face to everyone that says his movies are just explosions. It’s brilliant. Love the story as well, laughed my arse off picturing some random japanese guys trying to hit Michael with an A/C unit and biting a security guy’s shoe. Transformers can help 6.XX Million Hong Kong people to escape from the inhuman machine –PRC. Although Hong Kong population is more than 7 Million, more than 800,000 immigrant move to Hong Kong after 1997 and some of them have political mission to control Hong Kong. Transformer should kill all of them who have political mission, and save Hong Kong to independent. The best way is destroy the government of PRC to save the people on the earth. You came across this thing because you dont know Hong Kong native culture. Those 3 guys were actually not asking for money, they just wanted you to say a local greeting clause to them which expresses respect and friendship. Next time, when you got the similiar situtation, yell loudly : “屌你老母!” (pronounced as “dill lei lo mo”!), then they will stop! Yes, trust me! very effective !! Many HK people like saying this “introduction clause” as a greeting.

I feel ashamed of these local jerks. I am also from Hong Kong, and I swear to God most Hong Kong people are friendly and educated. Since Hong Kong as a British colony returned to China in 1997, more and more uneducated and rude Chinese from mainland China have migrated to Hong Kong. These people don’t get a job, don’t integrate into the local culture, but just jerk around and claim social benefit for their living. Some have even become druggies and street gangsters. They are bad blood of Hong Kong. Domestic Hong Kong people hate them so much and have been trying all out to expel them back to notorious China. I as native born Hong Kong Chinese sincerely apologize to you Michael for their misbehavior. Hong Kong is a beautiful and amazing city. Not sure if Stranger Danger is from another galaxy. But just in case he is, let me explain: Japanese is an imperfect replication of the Chinese model since the Tang Dynasty. About a century ago when the Chinese model was malfunctioning, the Japanese stole the energy capsules from the Chinese and tried to forcefully take over their base. The attempt failed partly because the Transformers from the planet US dropped two balls right on their heads. The Japanese were so impressed by the balls and have sine then tried to replicate themselves based on the US model, initially with some success but have been faltering in the past 20 years. They recently asked the US Transformer to help them to keep Diaoyu Island, one of the energy bloc they stole earlier from the Chinese. As to how the US Transformer will respond? Well, that is for the next episode coming up in summer of 2014. Don’t miss it!!

Thanks for visiting and filming in Hong Kong! Apart from apologising (on behalf of the thugs :S), I must say I find it a little odd that your crew and you encountered that embarrassing incident. Not only that they must have been out of their minds, it’s also been more than a decade since we locals would hear that film crews (local or foreign) were harassed for “reimbursement” or “protection payment”. Very strange indeed.

I don’t think “most people” think like that. It is frightening that these days some guys in HK always try to monopolize the term “Hong Kongers” and seek to represent Hong Kong people in speaking against China (as opposed to the Communist regime). Snowdown may speak against his own government but deep down he is an US patriot. I feel more ashamed for those scums than those who attacked Michael Bay.

  104. Cecil Lee
    October 19, 2013

First of all, I generally identify myself as a Chinese person. The term “Hongkongese” or “Hong Konger” (香港人) is a term I’d use perhaps when I want to signify that I’m from Hong Kong, as opposed to the terms “Beijinger” (北京人), “Shanghainese” (上海人) etc.

And as a matter of fact, most people in Hong Kong do think what some of us have voiced here. Also no, this is unrelated to patriotism to another country (which I don’t have anyway). What’s interesting however, is your use of one of the most common propagandas that those Communist internet trolling grunts like to use – “whoever that seemingly disagrees with the Communist government or protests against the Communist government must be a US patriot.”

Believe it or not, every person (Chinese or not) is actually entitled to their political opinions.

I love China, but it does not mean I have to love the communist government as well.

    Nice try, chiupolini.

I think you are a “廢青” (rubbish teen) reading Apple Daily everyday and being brainwashed. You’d better expand your personnel network to see what the truth is!

You say “most of us”, then please give proof the support your saying please! I dont want to be “represented” , because you have never been authorized!!

dont waste your time to explain to them. Many teens in HK are dysfunctional. Many of them indulge themselves in their “own network”, self-centred, not willing to hear opinions different than theirs.

They only like masturbating with Apple Daily and joining the pages of facebook which report unfavourable news for Mainlanders everyday, to obtain pleasure. For otherwise, they dont know any!

Maybe, from which they can think themselves are at a class higher than Mainlanders.

Cecil Lee, I think you are arrogant to say that “in fact most people in Hong Kong do think what some of us have voice here.” I was born in Hong Kong but none of my associates or friends would agree with you. However most of them are not vocal and unlike the lot like you, would speak out publicly against your own countrymen. Hence you got the misunderstanding that “most people” think like you. I know that some Hong Kong inhabitants do dislike mainland inhabitants. It is the same when West Germany got reunited with East Germany and there were initial conflicts between people of the two regions. The way to go about it is to work together to resolve the conflicts, not hurling insults at the other side who are your countrymen. Yet what you said did highlight one thing. You do not have any patriotic feeling for China as a nation. I had a benefit of that education because my family was from the KMT side. And in fact you do not know what patriotism is, hence you don’t feel that you should even try to resolve the relatively minor cultural conflicts. Instead your kind would simply sit there wailing all day complaining that, as a Hong Kong born person, you are not getting what “your just deserts”, You are of course entitled to your opinion. But it is one which I am afraid I cannot accord any respect.

  117. chiupolini

This Alec Lee machine is complete dysfunctional. It even thinks its daddy’s private part is for licking for how else could it have com up with such diabolic and abominable language in public?

  118. Cecil Lee

Why would anyone want to represent you? Look at the things that you write, endless troll-like prejudiced raging.

Unlike chiupolini (who still displays prejudice), you don’t even deserve to be talked to, and I won’t be replying to anymore of your nonsensical crap. You can keep raging like a 3-year old all you like.

Btw, you’re more ‘American’ than I am, because at least I spell ‘authorise’ with a ‘s’. And nice try there throwing ‘brainwashing’ around when you’re the one that got washed and dried.

  119. Cecil Lee

What’s for you to tell me? Grow up little kid.

  120. Cecil Lee
    October 20, 2013

What is this “my kind” “your kind” labelling? We’re all Chinese, and we are all entitled to our opinions (political or not), if you disagree with my opinion, you’re very welcomed to share yours.

Trying to bend facts and hinting unjustified derogation, however, will not help.

The fact that you’ve already labelled us as some sort of a ‘kind’ is already a pointer of how much acceptance and discussion you’re willing to give.

One things for sure, you have no idea how patriotic I am (and likewise I don’t know if you’re actually a patriot or just another communist)? But by the sounds of things you just want to spread fake communism everywhere through propaganda and pretend to be more Chinese than people that disagrees with you.

I do not require your respect btw, just as I have none for you and I don’t think you’d care.

Cecil Lee, look, if you still have the self-respect in calling yourself Chinese, you would know that since 1997 there is no turning back. Either you chose to emigrate (and then return like many of my friends did), or you have to accept that eventually we have to be speaking Mandarin, and writing simplified form of Chinese, whether you like it or not. For one thing, the movie makers in the West are now making movies in Hong Kong not because it is still a British colony, but because (at least in part) HK is part of China – a huge potential market for their products. How can they sell if they present HK as if it were independent from China? Have you watched Pacific Rim and Battle Ship? To urge westerners to treat HK as if it were a separate cultural entity in their movies is, if I may say so, outright naive. We are all living in a transitional period which arose out of political expediency. But the trend is clear and merger with the mainland culture is inevitable. However as the saying goes, if you can’t beat them, you join them. For some of you, of course, you can ask Michael Bay to give you a job in the US if he cares. But for most of us (I mean those of my associates and friends who were born in HK but definitely not of your kind), we are preparing to embrace the inevitable but at the same time try to find new opportunities in that. You can continue to insist speaking only Cantonese and write traditional Chinese, while many American, European and African people are now learning mandarin and simplified Chinese. However if “most HK people” had in fact been holding your kind of view, Hong Kong would still have remained a backwater selling opium, if not just a fishing village. I am writing that much because I still count you as polite, albeit it “too young, sometimes naive.” I know you are going to call me a communist again. Ha ha…..

  124. chiupolini
    October 20, 2013

Come to think of it, Alec Lee, honestly, do you want me to make a report of child abuse on your behalf? Did you father…….you know,…when you were small? I ask that because I am at a loss as to how a human being with any self-respect could utter such kind of words in other people’s web site. Michael Bay would be forgiven for thinking that we do have a lot of child abuse victims in HK.

  125. Cecil Lee
    October 20, 2013

Chiupolini, It’s disappointing to see that you continue label us (when really we’re the same ‘kind’) and think we’re all secretly American huggers (seriously, only Chinese Communists, people they managed to brainwash (and certain Americans) think that).

We do not have to (nor will I, personally) accept and use Mandarin and “Simplified” (more like fake) Chinese in Hong Kong. It is also ridicules to think that the use of Cantonese and Traditional Chinese is an indicator of lingering to the old colonial days.

Respecting and revealing local cultural values will not affect the international entity of the relevant location. Why make all that effort to film somewhere when you’re are not going to show its true face?

And, what is outright naive, is for certain people to think that culturally engineering a place, ignoring and disrespecting the locals, will not and should not bring unrest. After Xinjiang and Tibet, has the Chinese government not learnt a single thing?

And the can’t wind them join them quote? Oh my oh my, the Communist Party has to like glory supporters like you.

  126. iTwins@HK
    October 20, 2013

…haven’t had this much international attention about HK since Edward Snowdon. It certainly brings some excitement on this boring city. Hey, maybe consider putting Easter Eggs in your T4. Say, in a battle scene, guys in the background throwing A/C units at each other. 😀

Btw, you created the first movie mistake in T4 even before it’s released. Back in the States, in the T4 movie set replicating a HK street, how come store signs are in Chinese Simplified characters? When was the last time you see ANYTHING Chinese Simplified characters in HK, let alone store signs!?!

    Dear Michael Bay,
I am from HK. With this inconvenience, with the people in Hong Kong. I could say from my point of view that it is only natural. There are lots of crazy people around, but that shouldn’t be too bad. But what I want to say is, if you are going to make something after the Transformers 4.
What if you had one movie, that was set more like a zombies. As in, throughout all the times, and all the transformer deaths. What if they came back to life, as in zombies. Not only Decepticons but some Autobots as well, maybe someone like Sentinel Prime. But something like that, and something with a bit more autobot deaths than usual (probably to put some useless transformers like what you did with the Decepticons in the Dark of the Moon). You may not want to follow this but its fine. Its just an idea that I’ve got.

Cecil Lee, you will be disappointed to find out that banging the head against the wall will lead to bleeding. Try it. The way to do it is to dig at its foot until the wall collapses under its own weight. It takes time, but it will work and no one gets hurt. BTW I never labeled you as an American hugger. You have somehow mysteriously put that label onto yourself and wails me for doing that. Not sure if you are a lady. If you are, I can understand. Anyway I suppose we have both generated enough publicity for Michael Bay. Will have to charge him for advertisement fee, like the Chinese communists so these days. : )))

Hong Kong is so dead, barren, isolated and despised since the Chinese
takeover. They need some excitement in Hong Kong to remember the old
days when Hong Kong was a capital city state of the entire planet and
people loved to visit or stay. Those days are barely a memory now, but
many around the world still remember. Let there be some excitement, even

Jim, (I guess you are male). That is an interesting comment. Because I really do not KNOW if I was born in Hong Kong. I was only told by my family when I was older that I was born in Hong Kong and they backed up that claim with a birth certificate issued by the then Hong Kong government with my parents and my name on it. I suppose you actually KNOW that you were born in Hong Kong? Did you shout out aloud “Hey, what takes you so long?” when you were pulled out from your mother’s birth canal? Michael Bay should make a movie about your story of birth and name it “The story of a freak in Hong Kong”.

Ok, Cecil Lee, I pronounced your name wrong. It just sounded like “Sissy Lee” to me. I was just trying to be polite in case you were a lady. As for labeling, I would feel so ashamed when I heard an American fellow speaking mandarin fluently to me while a “Hong Kong Chinese” stand by the side and say aloud, IN ENGLISH: “I will only speak Cantonese. And the Chinese is killing our culture like they do with Tibet!” This sounds so surreal and profoundly learned that I cannot profess myself to be your same kind. Do spare me.
